About Compass Pet Heritage

By Kim and Escott Starling

Personalised Aftercare for Pets

Compass Pet Cremations & Services caters to people who wish for an individual aftercare service. Escott and Kim Starling started offering a pet cremation service in 1987. It was inevitable that they would extend their services to accommodate their clients' individual requirements.

Escott and Kim have both been involved with animals all their lives. Kim trained to be a pet groomer when she was in high school for six years and spent all her free time learning pet grooming. Kim's main reason was that she owned a beautiful little Toy Poodle, which introduced her to the dog show world. Trixy was her mother's birthday present before high school.

Building a Legacy

From Corporate to Compassion

Later, Kim went into the corporate world and realised something missing in accountancy- animals. Escott, who was in a small business and was associated with the funeral industry in England, suggested to Kim that they could help people with animals in a pet crematorium business, so they started the business in 1987. Kim opened Petpak, a part-time grooming salon, and also helped her long-term clients when it was their pet's time to go. There was a great need for the Compass Pet Crematorium business, so they decided to concentrate on their Crematorium business.

The Story

From Sydney to the Southern Highlands

They married on the Northern beaches and together opened the first pet cremation service open to clients by appointment in Sydney, called Compass Pet Cremations & services. When they had three children and one on the way, their services were received so well that they decided on a "tree change" and moved to their country property. It took two years to organise and have their Boutique Pet Cemetery & Crematorium Complex approved and change their business name to "Compass Pet Heritage Cemetery & Crematorium". They have strong concepts of where they wish to take the business.

Innovative Approach to Pet Aftercare

A pet crematorium in the middle of an idyllic pet cemetery, a viewing chapel, a condolence gift shop and a meditation chapel. All this has never been achieved before at this depth. They service all of the Northern Beaches, where they have a close connection, and their children still live. Their children are the second generation in the business, and as it is a privately owned and operated family business, they are committed to helping others with their individual requirements.

Service Areas are Sydney, Southern Highlands, Goulburn, ACT and South Coast
